When it comes to raw torque, GM got it right with the 2007 Corvette Z06. The new Corvette Z06 arrived as a 2006 model in the third quarter of 2005. It has a 7.0 L version of the small block engine codenamed LS7. At 427.6 cubic inches, the Corvette Z06 had the largest small block ever offered from General Motors. Because of the Corvette’s former use of 427 cubic-inch big blocks in the late-1960s and early 1970s, the LS7’s size was rounded down to 427 cubic inches. Official output is 505 bhp and has a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 198 mph.
This particular Corvette Z06 came to Smokey’s Dyno and Dynoed in at 435 rear wheel horsepower and 439 rear wheel torque. The customer informed us that he was ready for more power and wanted the car to sound meaner than it already did so we called our friends at Kooks Custom Headers. Kooks was happy to help and sent us their full package including:

We got right to work installing the parts. The installation was very straight forward and fit incredibly well on this car. Kooks really did their homework on the Z06 vette exhaust. With the addition of the Kooks setup it was time to hit the Dyno rollers again and see the improvement. To our surprise, the Z06 picked up 13 rear wheel horsepower and 15 rear wheel torque for a total of 448 HP and 4407 TQ. It was clear from the graph that the car would benefit from a custom tune so we got right to it and made up a base tune for the Z06. After some fine tuning we were able to achieve an amazing 48 HP and 35 TQ Gain at the wheels! The Z06 was now a fire breathing street machine. Check out the final Graph!
