A customer recently brought his 2002 Maserati Spyder down to our shop to get some information on tuning and what gains we could expect to get out of it. Typically on a Maserati tune, and on most naturally aspirated cars we tend to see an average gain of around 8-10% at the wheels. We also suggest installing a high flow BMC air filter as well to help the engine breathe better.
This vehicle is equipped with the Maserati M138 engine and was found in the Maserati Spyder and Coupe’ models during the years 2002-2007. It is a 4.2 liter engine that produces 385 horsepower and 333 ft. lbs. of torque at the crank stock. To the wheels the car put down 344 horsepower and 301 ft. lbs. of torque in stock form.
After installing the BMC air filter and performing our custom dyno tune we were able to achieve 23 horsepower and 26 ft.lbs. of torque, bringing the total to 367 horsepower and 327 ft. lbs. of torque to the wheels. The customer was thrilled with these results and liked the increase in throttle responsiveness and fuel economy that comes standard with any of our Smokey’s Dyno tunes.
